Umblicoplasty with Two Z-Plasty;
A New Umblicoplasty Technique in Abdominoplasty
Goals/Purpose:Umblicus is the only natural scar on human body. It can be major indicative after abdominoplasty procedure revealing that the patient's surgery. Although several alternative methods have been reported for reconstructing the umbilicus after abdominoplasty, the search for creating a natural-appearing umblicus is still ongoing. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the new technique for creating neo-umbilicus in abdominoplasty.
Methods/Technique: This technique was performed on 32-female patients in last 3 years. Adjacent to the lower margin of the umbilicus, the abdominal flap was thinned by removing fat tissue. After that, umblicoplasty with two Z-Plasty were performed on lower margin of the neo-umbilicus. Two main incisions which were parallel to each other were performed on umbilicus and abdominal flap respectively for creating the Z-plasty flaps (Figure1). The same incisions were performed on the other sides for creating second Z-plasty and flaps were inset (Figure2).
Figure1. The main incisions were performed on umbilicus and abdominal flap respectively.
Figure2. The Z-plasty flaps were inset (A to a and B to b) to creating neo-umblicus.
The umbilicus was secured to abdominal wall and abdominal flap by using single suture and skin flaps were approximated.
Results/Complications: We obtained very good aesthetic results without any complication with using this technique in our patients. With regard to the aesthetic outcomes of the operation, all of the patients were satisfied.
Conclusion: It is essential not to leave circumferential scar on neo-umblicus to achieve the more natural appearance. A new umblicoplasty technique with two z-plasty is acceptable method for creating the more natural neo-umblicus.
