4792 Augmentation Rhinoplasty with Silicone Implant In Asians

Goals/Purpose:

To present the technique and results of augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implant in Asians.

Methods/Technique:

Asians has nasal characteristic different from Caucasians. They have lower nasal dorsum, more thick skin envelope, less defined ala cartilage, less projection of nasal tip, broader alar base than Caucasians. Augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone prosthesis has been performed more than 50 years with predictable results from many pioneer surgeons but many unfavorable results and complications still present.This presentation includes the technique that the author has performed for more than 15 years in 548 patients.Three important steps, implant carving, pocket dissection via bilateral rim incision and tension adjustment have performed meticulously.

Results/Complications: 548 patients were operated by this technique during 1995-2009. Ninety four percent of the patients were satisfied with the results.The complications found were deviation ( 4%), extrusion ( 1%), infection (0.5%) and hematoma ( 0.5%).

Conclusion:

Augmentation rhinoplasty with silicone implant by closed approach is a reliable technique in Asians.
